T40 Founder weekly metrics memo

Founder weekly metrics memo

A founder writing a weekly update at an early morning desk

Week of Sep 15 to Sep 21, 2026 MRR growth: +2.1% Churn above target Internal

Where Tidewater stands this week: the numbers, what went well, what did not and what I am asking for. Written by Casey Lindgren, Founder and CEO, for the team and our investors.

About these numbers

All figures here are modeled sample data for this template, not audited financials. MRR is calculated from Stripe subscription data each Monday morning and excludes one-time services revenue. Trial and churn figures cover the trailing week unless noted.

Sample template: the firm, people, clients and figures are fictional and shown for illustration only.

Progress toward the Q3 goal

The board-agreed Q3 goal is $110,000 in MRR by Sep 30, 2026.

MRR toward the Q3 goal
86%

We are $15,800 short with 9 days left. At the current net new MRR pace of about $1,900 a week, we land near $97,700, short of goal. Closing the gap depends on the two enterprise deals in the pipeline table below.

Where our pipeline is coming from

pie showData
title Active pipeline by source, Sep 21 2026
    "Inbound, website" : 38
    "Outbound, founder-led" : 24
    "Partner referral" : 19
    "Existing customer referral" : 14
    "Content and community" : 5

Inbound remains the largest source, but outbound is the most efficient per dollar since we do not yet spend meaningfully on paid channels beyond the paused search test.

Wins this week

  • Closed Meridian Retail Group, a 12-seat annual contract at $1,450 a month, our largest logo to date.
  • Shipped the CSV export feature that both churned accounts this week had asked for, three months too late for them but now live for everyone else.
  • Reduced average API response time from 640ms to 210ms after the database index fix, no customer-visible incidents.

Problems this week

  • Onboarding drop-off. 60% of trials that connect their first data source finish setup, but only 34% of trials get that far at all. The integration step is the wall.
  • Paid search paused. We paused our only paid channel test on Sep 10 after spend outpaced the agreed weekly cap; it is not yet clear whether to resume it or redirect the budget to outbound.
  • Support backlog. Two-day median first response time this week, up from same-day last week, as our one support engineer covered onboarding calls.

Churn risk: reporting feature gap

Both accounts that churned this week cited the same missing capability, a custom report export, that has been on the roadmap without a committed date. Owner: Casey Lindgren, product priority call. If we do not commit a date this week, we expect at least one more churn from the three accounts that raised the same request in support tickets this month.

What I am asking for

Asks this week
Board: weigh in on whether to resume paid search or hold the budget for outbound, reply by Sep 24
Engineering: commit a date for the custom report export feature
Advisors: intro to a support hire candidate, we are one person deep on support
✓Investors: no ask this week beyond reading this memo

Honest read on the quarter

We will likely miss the $110,000 MRR goal by roughly $12,000 to $16,000 depending on whether the two enterprise deals close this week. The bigger issue is not this week's shortfall, it is the onboarding drop-off, because it caps how much of our trial volume ever becomes revenue regardless of top-of-funnel spend. Fixing the integration step in onboarding is now the top engineering priority for the next two weeks, ahead of new feature work.
