An SEO strategist and colleague sorting opportunity cards on a table

Q4 2026 planning Client: Acme 3 items proposed 1 item blocked

How Northfield Search scores Acme's open SEO opportunities by impact and effort, and what we propose taking into Q4 2026. Prepared for the planning call between Acme's marketing team and Northfield Search. Scope covers items in our shared opportunity tracker that are not yet Won or Closed.

How we score an opportunity

We rate every item in the tracker on two axes, then add the scores. A higher combined score means we recommend it sooner rather than later.

ImpactScoreEffortScore
High3Small3
Medium2Medium2
Low1Large1

Priority score is the impact score plus the effort score, from 2 (low impact, large effort) to 6 (high impact, small effort). We recommend scores of 5 or 6 for the current quarter and hold scores of 2 or 3 for a later quarter unless a client asks us to move faster.

The scores line up with what already ranks highest in the shared tracker: high-impact, low-effort fixes rise to the top, and the 140-page description rewrite scores lower because of its size even though its eventual impact is meaningful.

The table below is the live Impact versus effort view from that tracker. It lists every opportunity across our clients that is not yet Won or Closed, sorted by impact, so you can see where Acme's items sit against the rest of our active backlog.

Before you share this page with a client

This view lists opportunities for every client in our tracker, not only Acme. Before sending this page to anyone outside Acme, switch the embed to a view filtered to Acme, or copy the page and filter that copy.

Our decision rule

flowchart TD
    A[Score the opportunity] --> B{Impact}
    B -->|High| C{Effort}
    B -->|Medium| D{Effort}
    B -->|Low| E{Effort}
    C -->|Small or Medium| F[Do this quarter]
    C -->|Large| G[Sequence into next quarter]
    D -->|Small| F
    D -->|Medium or Large| H[Hold in backlog, revisit next review]
    E -->|Small| I[Quick win if capacity allows]
    E -->|Medium or Large| J[Decline or defer]

Category page cannibalization and the checkout copy test both land in "do this quarter." The description rewrite scores as "sequence into next quarter" because of its size, so we propose starting with the 50 best-selling products rather than all 140 at once.

What is already underway

Staging site indexed: blocked on your side

380 staging URLs are indexed because the staging environment has no password. We need: your IT team to add password protection. Owner on your side: your infrastructure team, now a week past the date agreed on Sep 9. If it stays open: search engines keep crawling unfinished pages, which risks duplicate content signals against the live site.

What we propose for Q4

Proposed Q4 roadmap, pending your sign-off
Consolidate the two boots category pages and redirect the weaker URL (Leo Hart, do this quarter)
Add a delivery promise and returns note above the payment form (Sara Ortiz, do this quarter)
Rewrite descriptions for the 50 best-selling products first, then reassess the remaining 90 (Nora Kim, sequence into Q1 2027)
Confirm staging password protection is live, then request removal of the indexed staging URLs (Owen Brooks, overdue, escalate this week)
Confidence we reach the Q4 non-brand click goal if this roadmap is approved★★★★★4/5

Four out of five. The one open risk is the staging fix: if it slips past Sep 30, we would lower this to three and flag it as a technical risk in the next monthly report.

Trade-offs we considered
  • We could start the 140-page description rewrite in full this quarter, but that would use most of our monthly content hours and delay the category consolidation, which scores higher and ships faster.
  • We are not proposing new items from the backlog this quarter; the three in-scope items plus the staging fix already fill our agreed hours.
  • The checkout copy test could run before or after the category consolidation. We sequenced it first because it needs no developer time from your team.

Decisions for the planning call

  1. Approve the three proposed Q4 items and confirm the description rewrite sequencing.
  2. Confirm who on your team owns the staging password fix and by when.
  3. Agree whether Q1 2027 capacity should include the remaining 90 product descriptions.
How to use this template

Duplicate this page once per client and planning quarter. Replace these values; if a required value is missing, write Needs review next to it instead of guessing.
